I saw a concert Monday night that was outstanding, and there might be some bits of it in the last 10 minutes of the CBS Evening News tonight.
From Other Minds founder, Charles Amirkhanian:
"On Friday, March 10, the CBS Evening News with Bob Schieffer will close
with a short portrait of composer and violinist Daniel Bernard Roumain.
Some of the images you'll see on screen were shot at the Other Minds
concert this past Monday evening at the Jewish Community Center of San
Francisco. (In Northern California the broadcast time has been moved to
5:30-6 p.m., so tune in at 5:50 to see and hear Daniel in action.)
We hope you'll tune in to CBS wherever you are to catch a glimpse of this
talented young composer and violinist playing his four string quartets
with DJ Scientific on turntables and the Del Sol String Quartet (Kate
Stenberg and Rick Shinozaki, violins, Charlton Lee, viola, and Monica
Scott, cello) in "A Civil Rights Reader for Strings, Laptop, and DJ."
A couple of weeks ago, I saw the premier of a video documentary about modern day women mariners in the US, called "Shipping Out". It should be on various PBS stations under that title this month.
I'd be particularly interested in comments about what is said about "Tugboat Annie" in the video.
And many of you are already aware that Battlestar Galactica will have a speech modeled after one of Mario Savio's tonight, but it'll be interesting to see what it looks like.
