Remembering, and wondering
My grandfather died in October 1918, near Verdun.
He didn't have to go, but he'd written editorials
saying that the US should get into the war (apparently
Anglophilia runs in the family), so he went to France.
And didn't come back. I've seen his grave in the American
Cemetary near Verdun.
What would my grandmother's life been like if he'd have come home?
What would my mother's life been like, with a father?
What would my life have been like?
