We left Madeira Monday morning, and have been sailing more-or-less south ever since.
But there'll be no stop at the Canaries.
We've made a different sail out of our extra canvas, this time a fore top/course studding sail, sort of.
It's the Captain's birthday today, so we're having something special for dinner, but the cook is tired of being asked what, so I don't know yet.
I now have the magnetic brake on the starboard windlass working as advertised, with parts I picked up in Funchal. And the fog signal/PA system switch is installed, so we can easily generate bell-like fog signals if appropriate. I also fixed a fan for one of my shipmates (it turned out to be a fan I'd bought when I came on board last season, and has been used by several other crew since).
